Endometrial Ablation

Endometrial Ablation is a relatively simple procedure successfully performed by Dr. Gauta in the office or surgery center to treat abnormal uterine bleeding. The primary method, Radiofrequency (which uses a mild electrical current), is used to treat the endometrium (lining of the uterus). Traditional methods use bipolar cautery to excise (cut out) the endometrium and provide a greater sample of tissue to the pathologists. Radiofrequency ablation methods like Minerva and Novasure take about 5 minutes. Excision methods take a little longer and require surgery center care due to increased pain. There are no incisions with either method and little to no pain after the procedure. The procedures are a safe and effective alternative to hysterectomy for women who have decided they are done having children.
